America's First Planetarium
The centerpiece of America’s oldest planetarium is the 70-foot diameter Grainger Sky Theater. The six Sony projectors are powered by Digistar 6 and are paired with a NanoSeam™️ dome installation that extends 11 degrees past a full hemisphere. This unique dome design reaches to the floor of the planetarium and fully immerses the nearly 200 visitors to each show. \
Engaging & Flexible
Every year, more than a half million visitors pass through Adler’s doors in the shadow of the Chicago skyline. A unique combination of both a community science gateway and a research facility, the advanced technology of the Grainger Sky Theater enables the planetarium to host events and speakers at the cutting-edge of astronomy and astrophysics, transforming its data and discoveries into stunning and engaging visualizations.
